If you are from Georgia, you will actually have to either leave the state or the whole country to play live poker at a legal poker room. There are no licensed casinos inside this state, the only way to go to a casino in this state is go onboard a floating casino and leave the United States (not kidding, this actually happens with two separate companies doing it).
Georgia Poker Laws
In Georgia a bet is considered "an agreement that, dependent upon chance even though accompanied by some skill, one stands to win or lose something of value" (Definitions 16-12-20). Someone will commit the offense of gambling when someone "bets for money or other thing of value at any game played with cards" (16-12-21). Someone caught gambling in Georgia will be guilty of a misdemeanor. The laws are strict and actually enforced in this state. Many bars and home game have been busted up by authorities here.
Where to play live poker in Georgia
The reason why so many players play online poker and try to find a home game here, is because there are no licensed poker rooms in this state. Two companies work around this law by offering live poker on a boat in the ocean outside of the United States. Poker tournaments are played on the ocean at the Diamond Casino Savannah and Emerald Princess II Casino.
